About Us

Peaceful Valley Martial Arts follows the teachings of Tatsuo Shimabuku. It is a member of Isshinkai: an international organization of Isshinryu schools headed by Arcenio J. Advincula, one of Tatsuo's original students in Okinawa.
Peaceful Valley Martial Arts was formed in 1995 by head instructors Glenn E. Wargo (Nana Dan) and Glenn N. Wargo (Nana Dan) and has one dojo in White Meadow Lake, Rockaway Township, New Jersey. Both head instructors train directly under Sensei Advincula. In addition, all of our students are free to attend seminars frequently given by Sensei Advincula as well as other practitioners.
Our school emphasizes self-defense, kata, kumite, and weapons as taught by Tatsuo Shimabuku. In addition, we have incorporated into our studies both weapon and hand katas from other styles of karate, including those developed by Sensei Advincula, in order to provide a more rounded experience. We encourage attendance at tournaments including those sponsored by the Amateur Athletic Union. While Peaceful Valley has had many national and regional tournament champions, its emphasis is on the development of the individual to the best of that individual's ability.
